Palworld doesn't hide XP behind a mystery formula, but it does reward the players who understand which activities double up. Catching a new Pal, capturing an Alpha, completing a mission, and using items you crafted at your own base all pay out. Do them at the same time and your player level climbs while your base level rises with it.
Run the same loop: capture 10 new Pals → deposit → craft → cook a buff → hunt an Alpha. Every step gives XP, and the food buff stretches the cycle. This routine outperforms grinding fights for XP at almost every level tier.
The core XP loop
- Catch new species first. The largest XP payouts come from the first capture of a Pal. Even a level-3 Pal you've never caught gives a bigger burst than five kills.
- Deposit into the Palbox. Depositing a Pal grants a small XP bonus and completes catch-related missions in the background.
- Craft while you deposit. Every item you craft gives XP proportional to its work cost. Queue five arrows or a stack of low-tier ammo before you leave base.
- Cook a buff meal. Meals like grilled meat give short-lived XP and combat boosts. Line them up before an Alpha attempt.
- Take an Alpha within your level bracket. Alpha Pals give the biggest single XP number of any activity, plus a rare drop.
Which Alphas are worth chasing early
Not every Alpha is a good return on time. The best early targets are the ones with flat approach paths and no roaming ambient enemies — you can pull them, kite them, and reset without dying to environment. As a general rule:
- Levels 10–20 — target Alphas in the first two biomes. Ground mount + primitive bow is enough.
- Levels 20–35 — target Alphas near the Feybreak transition. A matchlock and a healing Pal in your party will carry you.
- Level 35+ — Sky Island and World Tree Alphas open up. These give the biggest single-fight XP payouts in the game.
Base XP: the passive channel most players ignore
Every time your base produces something on its own, that's XP. A base with three well-fed workers on a lumber and stone rotation is generating XP while you sleep, hunt, or scroll a map. Two upgrades matter more than any others here:
- More Pal slots — the raw ceiling on base productivity.
- Automation crafters — replace hand-crafting with production lines and the whole system runs itself.
Pitfalls that waste XP
Farming the same biome past its level cap
A level-30 player killing level-15 Pals earns almost no XP per kill. If your surroundings are grey-name, move.
Skipping missions
Palworld's missions look filler-shaped, but they front-load levels — accept them all and complete the ones that overlap with your existing loop for free.
