Wuthering Waves is on Version 3.5, exploring the Land of Xuanfang and running the Endstate Matrix S2 endgame mode. Kuro's action-gacha runs at 60 FPS on almost anything and the combat is the best in the genre — but the systems layer is dense. This guide is the shortest path from download to enjoying it.
Reroll for one meta carry (Jinhsi, Changli, or Xiangli Yao). Skip the standard banner until you have 300 Convenes saved for the selector. Focus on learning outro/intro rotations — that's the entire skill ceiling of the game.
Outro/intro — the mechanic that decides everything
Every Resonator has an outro skill (fires when they leave the field) and an intro skill (fires when they enter). Rotating between characters, you chain outros into intros for stacking buffs. The four-second window after any outro amplifies whichever Resonator you swap to.
Practical implication: your damage isn't about staying on your carry as long as possible. It's about swapping into your carry at the exact moment their intro window opens. Every top clear video is a rotation choreographed to that beat.
Reroll priority
Wuthering Waves's opening banner gives you enough Astrite for about 30 pulls with the beginner boost. Reroll targets:
- Jinhsi — Spectro carry, top of the meta.
- Changli — Fusion carry, covers what Jinhsi doesn't.
- Xiangli Yao — Electro carry with the best combo system in the game.
- Verina or Shorekeeper — Universal Spectro heal supports; either works.
Skip the 3.5 debuts (Yangyang: Xuanling, Suisui) as reroll targets — they're excellent, but they need a compatible carry to shine.
First 40 hours — what to do
- Finish Act 1 — the main story until Rover unlocks Fusion. Grants your first weapon selector and the first Astrite pity progression.
- Reach Union Level 40. Unlocks Tower of Adversity (endgame combat), the second Echo tier, and daily activity rewards.
- Complete every side quest in Huanglong. Payoff is massive — free Convenes and boss unlocks.
- Farm one Sonata Effect set for your main carry. Don't spread Echo runs; one full 5-piece set is worth more than three half-sets.
Waveplate — the daily loop
Waveplate is your energy meter — 240 per day. Spend it on:
- Weekly boss — one clear per week for character ascension.
- Echo tuning — Tacet Field runs to farm Echoes.
- Character material dailies — talent upgrade materials from the Forgery Challenge.
Waveplate does not gate Echo farming directly — you can grind Echoes in the open world without it. Save Waveplate for domain runs and don't feel obligated to spend the moment it fills.
Echoes — the equipment system that isn't in the tutorial
Every enemy you defeat has a small chance of dropping an Echo. Echoes are your artifact-equivalent — five slots, each with a main-stat and sub-stats, plus a summonable action. The good ones (5-star Echoes with meta-relevant Sonata Effects) drop from Tacet Field grinding or weekly boss encounters.
Rules for a new player:
- Don't equip low-rarity Echoes long-term. They cap your build.
- Learn Sonata Effects. Every carry has a preferred set — pull up a build guide for your Resonator before you invest tuning materials.
- The Echo main-stat matters more than the sub-stats. Reroll for the right main-stat first.
The Convene (gacha) system
Wuthering Waves uses a 80-pull hard pity on character banners, softer than Genshin. The banner has a 50/50 rule: your first 5-star has a 50% chance of being featured; if you lose, the next 5-star is guaranteed to be featured. Weapon banners hit hard pity at 80 with a 75/25 rule.
