Its Safe Refinement mode turns gearing from a gamble into a project you finish: a failed attempt costs materials, but it never destroys your item and never knocks it down a level. Safe refine cannot break or downgrade your gear. It only costs refine stones. Push your main weapon to about +8 early, then bank stones and grind +12 to +15 in one sitting during a double-drop event. Don't waste rate-boost items below +10.
What "safe" actually changes
The rule is simple: while you refine in safe mode, failure has no teeth. Your gear does not break, and its refine level does not drop. You spend another refine stone and go again. If you pre-registered or have redeem codes waiting, claim that mail before you push your main weapon past the cheap early levels. Those free materials are worth the most when stones are still scarce.
A smart, low-waste refining order
Costs stay gentle through the low levels and then climb sharply once you pass +10, so a little discipline saves a lot of farming.
- Pick gear you'll keep. Refine equipment you expect to use for at least two content tiers, usually your class weapon and one armor piece with a set bonus. Refining a throwaway drop is stones down the drain.
- Rush the cheap levels. Take your main weapon to roughly +7 or +8 quickly; the stone cost per success is low and the power spike is immediate.
- Batch the expensive ones. Before attempting +12 through +15, farm the stones you need in advance (ideally during a double-drop window) then refine in a single session so you're not tempted to spend stones elsewhere.
- Hold your boosters. Save any rate-boost or protection items for the high levels, where a single success can spare you dozens of stones. Below +10 the math barely moves.
When to double-check the prompt
Not every upgrade in the game is safe. Special or event gear may still use legacy modes that can break or downgrade on failure, so read the confirmation dialog every time. If the prompt mentions any break or downgrade chance, stop and make sure you're actually in Safe Refinement before you click. The one-second habit of reading that box is the cheapest insurance in the game.
What comes after +15
Once a piece hits +15, refinement has given you everything it can. From there, your power gains come from cards and enchants rather than more hammering, so pivot your farming toward those systems instead of chasing refine tiers that may not exist yet.
