AC Black Flag Resynced Beginner Guide (Where to start)

◷ 5 min read ◆ Published

Black Flag Resynced is the 2026 remake of the 2013 original — Edward Kenway, the Jackdaw, and every sea shanty rebuilt on modern lighting. Same 43 main missions, same four Caribbean regions (Havana, Nassau, Great Inagua, Kingston), same collectible pool. If you're coming back after a decade, the shape is familiar; if this is your first Black Flag, this guide gets you started.

✦ Scout's short answer

Play on Standard difficulty for the first playthrough. Focus main missions to unlock all four regions before you tackle collectibles. Save Legendary ship battles for after level 30 — they crush earlier attempts.

Difficulty settings

Play Standard on your first run. Hard raises enemy Sync levels and adds unlockable achievements — save it for a second run or if you already know the game.

New Game Plus

Yes — Resynced added New Game Plus. Carry over Jackdaw upgrades, unlocked outfits, and Sync levels. Trinkets and Ship Plans reset.

How long to beat

  • Main story only: ~24 hours.
  • Main + significant side: ~40 hours.
  • Full completion (Sync 100%, all collectibles): ~65 hours.

Region order

Regions unlock in main-story order:

  1. Havana — Sequence 2. Learn Assassin's Creed basics and sailing.
  2. Nassau — Sequence 3–4. The pirate republic; character-focused missions.
  3. Great Inagua — Sequence 5–8. Jackdaw's home base; unlocks Trinket forge.
  4. Kingston — Sequence 8+. Endgame area with the toughest naval encounters.

Collectible priority

Collectibles matter for Sync 100% but you can skip early:

  • Shanties — collect as you sail (gulls circle them).
  • Ship Plans — from Templar Hunt targets. Prioritize.
  • Treasure Maps — save for late-game.
  • Chests — don't grind unless you're going for platinum.
