Arknights: Endfield Beginner Guide (Where to start)

◷ 5 min read ◆ Published

Arknights: Endfield takes the deep character system from the tower-defense original and puts it in a 3D real-time action RPG. Squad-based, seven playable operators per group, real-time control across them all. The learning curve is steep — this guide is the shortest path from download to enjoying it.

✦ Scout's short answer

Reroll for a 6-star DPS anchor (Attack role). Read the OG Arknights faction glossary — a lot of Endfield's lore assumes familiarity. Learn Contingency Contract before you touch Regional Development.

Role frames — the squad-building system

Endfield uses the same role system as OG Arknights: Vanguard, Guard, Defender, Sniper, Caster, Medic, Support, Specialist. Every squad needs coverage — a damage role, a sustain, a support, and a flex. Missing a category means specific AIC maps become unwinnable.

Reroll priority

  1. Any 6-star Attack-role operator (best current picks: Chen the Holungday, Perlica dual-role).
  2. Perlica (Vanguard/Support) — universal squad energy generator.
  3. Wulfgard (Defender) — safest tank at launch.

First 30 hours

  1. Finish the opening chapter to unlock the gacha system.
  2. Reach account level 20 — unlocks AIC maps.
  3. Clear Contingency Contract once for the free 5-star selector.
  4. Build one squad of six operators fully leveled before you branch out.

AIC maps — the endgame content

AIC maps are your dungeon/challenge system. Three current maps:

  • Umbral Monument — combat-heavy, favours damage frames.
  • Etchspace Salvage — puzzle-adjacent, requires specific operators.
  • Delver of the Cryptic — endgame ceiling, requires two DPS operators.

Do you need to play OG Arknights?

No — Endfield is standalone. But: many characters, factions, and lore beats reference the original. Read a short "OG Arknights connection" summary before you dive into the story chapters if you want to catch the references.

For this guide we consulted the Game8 Arknights: Endfield wiki (operator roles, AIC map system, OG connection), and community discussion on Reddit and player Discords.
